Notes about my life these days…
* My grandmother is ill and my father doesn’t expect her to live much longer. Unfortunately, I’m way out here in Maui and all my family lives in the Northeast U.S. So I’m trying to come up with the cash to fly out there this month; unfortunately, the work situation _on Maui_ keeps me pretty close to the wire even with no extraneous spending
* Having said that, work is picking up on the freelance side, which is in most cases more lucrative than my day job. I’m currently working on copyediting for a guy in Boston, web site and business presence for a health retreat here in Maui, and some hush-hush Ruby on Rails coding for a startup based out of Colorado.
* I’m in the planning stages of no less than __four__ great ideas of my own, which range from extremely simple concepts (think [Writeboard][1] in terms of simplicity of focus) that I could probably code in a couple days on Rails to apps that are more complex in terms of coding but still simple and direct in terms of focus.

* Daily meditation and yoga practice have both been revived.
* Organization is a lot easier these days, partially thanks to [Billings][2], [Basecamp][3] (using it in a current project and I’m sold on its benefits) and RSS!

* Jess will be back on the mainland from next Wednesday to Saturday of the following week, so I’ll have a lot of extra time to work on pet projects, assuming I don’t somehow head out to the mainland myself soon.
