Mind-bending movie mixes, take I

Though I’d seen [Lost in Translation][1] before, I rented it again from Netflix because I love the sense of “being” it portrays… Cast adrift in a sea of humanity they don’t quite understand (how many of us _do_ understand?), Bill Murray and Scarlett Johannsen (swoon) build a friendship out of the silly little things people do, their misunderstandings, emotional surges and moments of ethical thinking. Not quite a romance, more than a friendship, but really a discovery of __life__ itself. __Lost in Translation__ leaves me believing there may be nothing more than this, but _this_ is more than enough for a full and vibrant life.

Just before I watched that, I watched [What the Bleep Do We Know][2], which I missed when it played at the Maui Film Festival last fall. Half-documentary, half-drama, with a few rough spots in terms of the acting and execution, this film explores quantum physics in terms of how our own thoughts affect us and the world around us, and just how fundamentally our “spirits” play a role in the creation of reality around us.

Food for thought.
