[Backpack][bp] launched publicly today, and I signed up first thing this morning - after checking my email and before heading out to work. After having a few minutes to review it, I’ve confirmed my initial suspicions, that [Backpack][bp] deals primarily with information organization, rather than with initial processing. So far, I think 37Signals’ team should be commended on an app that *simply* and *efficiently* meets that need. They really put a lot of thought into the examples, which show the versatility of such a ‘blank slate’ tool.
Some of the concepts used by Backpack will find their way into Pony, either in version 1 or more likely an update soon afterward. Where their way provides significant usability improvements, I’m leaning toward making changes sooner rather than later. Still, I’m somewhat gladdened to see that my efforts aren’t duplicating theirs, and that what I’m working on could actually dovetail nicely with the Backpack project.
