I think I’ve finally come up with a database schema that will work effectively and not have too much disorganization. I wanted, at first, to describe _everything_ with tags and simply implement the system on top of that. But my experience with databases is with SQL, and specifically MySQL; not only has this project been a crash course in remembering everything I’d forgotten about SQL, but it also has been a reminder that sometimes structures are just as important as words in describing information.
That I’m attempting such an academic feat at all smacks of irony (or perhaps **hubris**?). Anyone who knows me, including myself, knows that I couldn’t organize myself out of a paper bag. Or rather, I can organize myself, but I can’t remember to stay organized long enough to get out of the paper bag.
Which makes this all the more interesting a challenge…
Thankfully, after my 4th cup of coffee of the day, I hit upon a combination of tables that should work. Now I should be off to the command-line for some datalicious wizardry.
Oh, and Mom, Dad, and family: job interview coming early this week. I’ll keep you posted!
